An Album of Nineteenth Century Photographs of Egypt
Bonfils, F. &c
c.1870
Sold
A collection of photographs of Egypt, the majority of which are views of classic Egyptian antiquities.
The Sphinx, the Pyramids & Abu Simbel are all represented here in images taken by the travel photographer Felix Bonfils, who had established a studio in the Lebanon at Beirut. The other photographers represented here, Arnoux & Sebah, also known for their work on Egypt, were most probably acquaintances of Bonfils, their differing subjects complementing his.
H. Arnoux's works are panoramic or architectural studies, whilst Sebah seems to have worked with people for the most part. Many of the images are numbered & some signed on the negative.
