André Salmon's (1881 - 1969) third collection of poetry (after 'Poèmes' of 1905 and 'Féeries' of 1907), 'Le Calumet' was first issued in 1910 just after his marriage and his move from the 'Bateau-Lavoir' where he had lived with Picasso, Apollinaire and Max Jacob. For this later 'édition définitive' illustrated with woodcuts by André Derain, Salmon added new poems.

Half-title with woodcut vignette and justification verso, pictorial title in red and black with large woodcut vignette by Derain (matching the front wrapper) and Salmon's verse illustrated with 58 further woodcuts, 'Table des Matières' and achevé d'imprimer to final leaf verso; André Derain's woodcuts are printed as head- and tail-pieces and vignettes throughout. Original magenta printed wrappers with titles in black to front cover and spine and a monochrome woodcut by Derain to front cover.
