The first collection of Futurist poetry, A Trap for Judges (1910), was to mark the initial collaboration of David and Nikolai Burliuk, Elena Guro, Kamenskii and Khlebnikov. These poets became known as the Gileia group. A Trap for Judges was followed by the collaborative publication presented here, A Slap in the Face of Public Taste. This book advocates the overthrow of the classics of the past, attacks the idols of the present, and orders that poets' rights be revered. The book was the first in a series of Futurist books of 1910-16 that produced an effect analogous to the 'succes de scandale' of the exhibitions of the avant-garde painters. [Rowell & Wye 12].
