Vingt-cinq poèmes. Dix gravures sur bois de Hans Arp

Arp. Tzara, Tristan

Zürich. Collection Dada (chez j heuberger). 1918
Sold
First edition of this superb Dada collaboration in a variant full gilt cover with hand-painted vignette and stylised 'Tzara'.

Although the justification announces only the first ten copies on Hollande as being signed and justified, this copy is signed by Tzara on the recto of the first poem and marked 'Exemplaire No. 13'.

The collection constitutes Tzara's second published book of poetic experiments. Vingt-cinq Poèmes is unquestionably one of the book highlights of the first, heroic period of the Dada movement.

'Arp's simple yet direct woodcuts encourage free association, as do Tzara's poems. The raw, free form of the woodcuts is similar to the relief sculpture and collages that Arp was working on at the time and in keeping with the effect of art automatically produced that was dear to the Dada sensibility.' (Flynn-Johnson / Stein, Artists' Books in the Modern Era 1870 - 2000, the Reva and David Logan Collection of Illustrated Books).

[Berggruen 2; Arntz 16a - 25b; The Artist and the Book 2; Logan 23].
