A previous owner has drawn part of the Cookworthy family tree on the front endpapers. Cookworthy, a Quaker apothecary and chemist was also a potter who discovered china clay and china stone in Cornwall. He also made a blue pigment from Chinese cobalt. His visitors in Plymouth included Dr. Johnson and Captain Cook.
