Grandville's first published series of plates provide a humorous depiction of the changing concerns of man throughout his life. Of note is the fact that Grandville is credited on the title as I. Adolphe Grandville rather than the later J. J. Grandville. Grandville's depictions of man and his pleasures are as follows:
