Grandville

Paris. Chez Gihaut, Boulevard des Italiens. 1827
Sold
Complete set of Grandville's rare first published suite of satirical plates.

Grandville's first published series of plates provide a humorous depiction of the changing concerns of man throughout his life. Of note is the fact that Grandville is credited on the title as I. Adolphe Grandville rather than the later J. J. Grandville. Grandville's depictions of man and his pleasures are as follows:
Oblong 4to. (256 x 353 mm). Ten lithograph plates by Grandville each with contemporary hand-colouring. Later full green moiré cloth, red morocco title label to upper board with gilt title, matching label to spine, original front wrapper with printed title retained.
