'The angel Heurtebise was not only a guardian angel, but also a kind of demon for artistic jack-of-all-trades Jean Cocteau. He showed up as a muse, but also as an angel of death and as the reincarnation of Cocteau's lover Raymond Radiguet, who had died prematurely. As legend has it, Cocteau was standing in an elevator when the angel spoke to him and divulged his name: it was the same as that of elevator manufacturer Heurtebise. In a haze that lasted seven days, Cocteau wrote the poem L'ange Heurtebise. Although the angel was supposed to be unknowable and invisible, surrealist photographer Man Ray was able to capture it in a photograph.' (Koninklijke Bibliothek).
