Kurt Schwitters in England 1940 - 1948
Schwitters, Kurt. Themerson, Stefan
London. Gaberbocchus Press. 1958
A well-conceived book on Schwitters' time in London, published by Gaberbocchus book in close collaboration with the artist.
The combination of various coloured pages, illustrations with paste-overs or incisions (thus revealing text from subsequent pages), make this a charmingly unconventional publication and much in spirit with Schwitters' work.
The book includes an introduction by Stefan Themerson of Gaberbocchus Press. Also included in this copy is a newspaper clipping from 'The Daily Telegraph' dated 21.04.99, an article titled 'New found objects of desire' by Martin Gayford (subheading: 'Too bohemian for the Nazis, too radical for his time, modernist Kurt Schwitters died destitute in the Lake District - but this may be his time...').
