L'Artiste et la Société
Rouart, Eugène
(Brussels?). Edition de la Libre Esthétique. 1902, 7 mars
A good, unsophisticated copy of Eugène Rouart's important lecture for the 1902 Salon de la Libre Esthétique.
Although issued without a justification it seems likely that this is one of 100 copies on Hollande Van Gelder paper.
Eugène Rouart was an agronomist, politician, a lifelong friend of André Gide and an important collector and theoretician. In the present lecture, rather than a dry, academic approach, Rouart looks at the emotional aspects of art and its powerful effect on the human spirit. Picasso appears to have been influenced by Rouart, whose name is recorded in one of Picasso's 'Les Demoiselles' sketchbooks.
The opening of Rouart's lecture).
