Mavena

Miro, Joan. Ivsic, Radovan

Paris. Editions Surréalistes. 1960
One of Miró's most beautiful books printed entirely on beautiful hand-made paper impressed with flower petals, ferns and herbs.

From the edition limited to 95 copies on 'Auverge à la main, à pétales de fleures, brin d'herbes et pointes de fougére, du Moulin Richard-de-Bas', with this one of 75 numbered copies signed on the justification by Miró in coloured crayon and by Ivsic in black crayon; 20 lettered copies were also issued reserved for the artist and the poet.

The entire book, the text is the eponymous poem by the bilingual Yugoslav emigré poet and dramatist, is printed on hand-made Auvergne paper inset with flower petals, small leaves, herbs and bracken tips.

Also included, inserted loose, is the original publisher's announcement or prospectus printed on a green hand-made Auvergne (323 x 248 mm) matching the paper used for the additional wrapper of the book. The prospectus indicates too that the first 25 numbered copies included an additional pull of Miro's lithograph; copy number also included Ivsic's manuscript.

[Cramer 61].
[7 bifolia: 14 unnumbered leaves including blanks]. Small folio. (340 x 263 mm). Half-title, leaf with Miró's original colour lithograph signed in pencil as frontispiece, title, leaf with homage 'En souvenir de Benjamin Péret' recto, verso and following leaves with Ivsic's verse in French, final leaf with justification and achevé d'imprimer verso.
