The 'Sheldonian Series' published by B. H. Blackwell was of a number of 'Reprints and Renderings of Masterpieces in all Languages'. The present volume was printed 'in Oxford at The Vincent Works (Compositor, W. Alcock : Pressman, W. Cox), and finished in the December of the Fourth year of the War [sic], i.e. 1918. The book was - perhaps - intended for an American audience and was sold in New York by Longmans Green & Company.

Title in red and black with dedication verso, leaf with contents and Betts' translation of 29 'Songs and 'Sayings' with titles and four-line decorative initials in red throughout, text ornaments in black or red, final leaf with colophon at conclusion of the text and translators credit verso; tipped-in tto the rear pastedown is the announcement slip for the Sheldonian Series etc. in matching type and format. Original publisher's cream cloth-backed blue decorative patterned boards, white paper label with titles to front cover and spine.
