(Paris). 1924, 21 juillet
The scarce poster / announcement for the 'Bal Olympique' of 1924.
The bulletin / poster recto gives details of the ball, 'consacré à Apollon, Dieu de l'Olympe et à la grande Olympiade de Colombes', with a musical quotation by Germaine Tailleferre, sporting heroes, a note on the decoration of the 'salle' ('Record de vitesse en Décoration' with '50 Artistes participeront') and the announcement that '300 affiches avec les dessins originaux des artistes notoires seront exposées dans Paris'. The verso continues, headed with a large 'Projet de Costume pour le Bal Olympique pouvant servir aux deux sexes', with the 'Programme' for the ball including dance (Ballets Suèdois, Lizica Codreano and Olga Koklova et al.), Larionov's 'nouveau système de projections fantastiques', prestidigitation (Zamoyski), Japanese sport (Foujita), Tristan Tzara's 'Spectacle sur l'Echelle' etc. etc. The committee is listed too as well as 'Les billets sont en vente chez ...' with a plethora of Parisian galleries detailed.
'Larionov, however, was once again on the committee of the 'Union des Artistes Russes Paris',this year as vice-president, and it was his decision to hold another large ball, just four months after the Ba! Banal, on July 11th in order to celebrate the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris ... The 'Bal Olyrnpique' was organised this time by a large committee, which did not include either Larionov or Goncharova. However the two artists were asked to contribute various items to the entertainment. Larionov appeared with his 'New System of Fantastic Projections', which utilised coloured designs by Tchelichev, Tereshchkovich, Bart and others ... Goncharova, however, designed puppets and costumes for a charming little play by Julie Sazonova and her 'Marionette Theatre of Petrograd', called 'A Spanish Moment with a Lion'. (Anthony Parton).
